The Black 14
Tony McGee
What the stand cost: A possible top NFL pick who fell to the third round after Wyoming labeled him a troublemaker.
At 6’4” and 250 pounds, Tony McGee dominated as a defensive end — they called him “Mac the Sack.” He went on to a long NFL career and a Super Bowl, and a place in the conversation for the Hall of Fame.
But the 1969 incident cost him. Labeled a troublemaker and a leader of the Black 14 by the University and Eaton, his draft stock collapsed from a potential first-overall pick to the 64th selection in the third round. It was a burden he carried silently for years.
